Poemcrazyi s the poetic analog to Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird or Natalie Goldberg's Writing Down the Bones, two classic works on how to forget that you "can't write" and just start the pen moving. Susan Wooldridge is a swimming instructor in the wide ocean of language, encouraging us to move ever farther from the shore, dive deep, and dance on the waves.

POETRY…

(©Peter Sprenkeler)

Poetry is painting, wisdom, sculpture, words to fashion,
A crafting of phrases and thoughts and rhymes with passion.
About love and life and pain and beauty and all things pertaining,
About matters that lie within us, quietly and urgently straining.
To set them free - our deepest thoughts unleashed,
Tales to tell - to captivate - spirits reached.
To give a reader humour, comfort and delight,
To give solace, peace and warmth on a cold winter's night.
And yet to give disquiet and challenge, a differing view,
On matters most would regard as anything but new.
Such a rich mine of discovery, surprise and emotion,
Poetry truly is an endless, fathomless ocean.
Read it as though it were a tasty meal,
Devour it, savour it - search for its appeal.
Learn to value the passions and heartfelt emotion,
As you dive headlong into this abundant ocean.
Let your spirit swim and soar through amazing pages,
Of words, thoughts, hopes and dreams of folk down the ages.
There are so many enchanting tales upon this enlightening shelf,
Of life and love and passion and emotional mirrors of yourself.
